Private vehicle
We take care of managing the decommissioning of your private vehicle in a simple and hassle-free way. We collect your car with a tow truck for free and handle all the paperwork for the final decommissioning at the DGT, without you having to make any trips.
If you are the owner of a vehicle that you want to decommission or represent an owner who wants to decommission their vehicle, you must present the following documentation based on your case.

Habitual procedure cases
1. Deregister a privately owned car whose owner is present at the time of collection.
- Photocopy of both sides of the current DNI/Passport/NIE ( or in its absence the renewal receipt or a signed driver’s license)
- Vehicle technical data.
- Vehicle road license (if not available you will have to provide an official explanation that Tráfico, the ITV (MOT) or the Civil Guard have kept it).
2. Deregistering a privately owned vehicle with authorization (the owner will not be present at the collection).
- Photocopy of both sides of owner’s current DNI/passport/NIE.
- Photocopy of both sides of the current DNI/passport/NIE of the person authorized to give the vehicle to the tow truck driver.
- Authorization document completed and signed by people, the owner and the authorized person. If it is in Catalonia the said authorization will not be necessary, but a signed by the owner deregistration request, yes

3. Deregistration of a vehicle because of death.
- Photocopy of current DNI/passport/NIE of the owner of the vehicle and current DNI/passport/NIE(s) of heir(s).

- Waiver form from all the heirs in favour of the heir who will be present for the collection of the vehicle by the tow truck driver
- If the person present is not one of the heirs, he or she will have to provide a photocopy of both sides of the DNI/passport /NIEand an authorization form signed and authorized by the heir(s)
- Death certificate
- The family booklet/marriage certificate (only if the deceased was Spanish) all relevant pages to the first blank page
- Photocopy of will (if there is one)

4. Deregistration of a foreign registration vehicle
In case the vehicle has not been deregistered, to carry out the procedure you must provide the following documentation:
- A photocopy of the valid ID of the vehicle owner, both sides (or, if applicable, the renewal receipt or valid driver’s license).
- The vehicle’s technical sheet.
- The vehicle’s registration certificate (if you do not have it, provide the receipt indicating that Traffic, the ITV, or the Civil Guard has kept it).
- If the vehicle owner will not be present during the collection, they must authorize another person. For this, a photocopy of the valid ID of the authorized person (both sides) and the signed authorization form by both the authorized person and the owner must be provided.
- At the time of vehicle collection, the Destruction Certificate will be given, along with the two license plates to deregister it in your country.
The car will be transported to the scrapyard and must be deregistered in the country of origin.
5. Deregistration of a stolen vehicle
If the vehicle owner is a person with a disability or a minor, the following documentation must be submitted to carry out the procedure:
- A photocopy of the valid ID of the owner or minor and the guardian, both sides (or, if applicable, the renewal receipt or valid driver’s license).
- The vehicle’s technical sheet.
- The vehicle’s registration certificate (if you do not have it, provide a receipt showing that Traffic or the Civil Guard has kept it).
- A photocopy of the disability certificate.
- In the case of a minor, a photocopy of the family book that justifies this (it must include the first 3 pages)
6. Deregistration of a vehicle belonging to a disabled person or a minor
If you want to permanently deregister a vehicle that is currently in temporary deregistration, you will need the following documentation to complete the procedure:
- A valid ID of the vehicle owner, both sides (or, if applicable, the renewal receipt or valid driver’s license).
- A copy of the permanent or temporary deregistration issued by Traffic

If you want to permanently deregister a vehicle that is currently in temporary deregistration status, you will need to provide the following documentation to complete the procedure:
- A valid ID of the vehicle owner, both sides (or, if applicable, the renewal receipt or valid driver’s license).
- A copy of the permanent or temporary deregistration issued by Traffic.
