Please take note of the following 10 reasons. If you are going through one of these situations with your car, this is the right time to contact a scrap yard and definitively unregister your car with the DGT.

Your vehicle has been idle or in disuse for more than a year and it is no longer of use to you.
If your vehicle is constantly breaking down and it is no longer economical to continue having it the mechanical faults repaired.

If your vehicle has been in an accident and you are unable to afford the cost of repair, or it simply isn’t worth it, it is time to take your car to the scrap yard. In these conditions if your car is under 10 years old, an appraisal will be done and you will receive the value of the claim from the Authorized Treatment Facility (C.A.T.) who will arrange for the decontamination, dismantling and definitive deregistration in Tráfico.
If your vehicle has been declared a total write off by the insurance company.
If your vehicle is over 10 years old and you are thinking of buying a new one.
If the owner of a vehicle has died and the heirs or relatives do not wish to continue using it.
In the event of a car having been stolen.

When a vehicle is going to be transferred to another country, the definitive deregistering for export has to be done. In this case the owner has to go to Tráfico and present the documentation relative to the case.
